The latest environmental workshop, whose theoretical part was organized in the premises of the Children’s Center, was attended by high school students from Zajecar and Bor. The theme of the environmental workshop was “Protection and Sustainable Use of Natural Resources in the Vicinity of Mining Areas – Sustainable Use of Thermal Waters.” Geothermal waters represent a valuable resource with a wide range of applications, from energy to health, whose potentials in Serbia are yet to be fully explored and utilized.

Participants prepared presentations on the possibilities of using geothermal springs and water, whose potential, unfortunately, is not yet fully utilized in Serbia.

The second part of the environmental workshop was held in Gamzigrad Spa, with a visit to the Special Hospital for Rehabilitation “Gamzigrad,” where thermal water is used for therapeutic purposes to treat various illnesses. Through a practical example, young people were able to see how geothermal energy is used, which is significant for their education, according to lecturers Lela Skrobonja and Marija Sebić.

In conclusion, workshop participants concluded that geothermal waters represent an important resource with a wide potential for application. Through investments in research, infrastructure, and technology, Timočka Krajina has the potential to fully utilize these resources to improve the quality of life for citizens, diversify the energy system, and achieve sustainable economic development.
