Seventh Episode of the Series “Look Around You” – Environmental Exodus of People of Krivelj
The extreme expansion of mining in Timočka Krajina has led to the rapid spread of open-pit mines that literally surround settlements in some areas. The most extreme example is the village of Krivelj near Bor, whose residents will be relocated to a new location. The problem is that most of the residents have already been relocated once, just over two decades ago, due to the expansion of the mine, but now the mine has once again reached their doorstep.
The first relocations of Krivelj residents to the new location were announced for 2023, but to this day no agreement has been reached with the locals. Meanwhile, there have been gatherings, discussions, disagreements, and divisions among the people… Many residents of Krivelj can no longer live in uncertainty and endure the daily tremors from blasting, so they sell their property to the mine owners at much lower prices than the market value and move wherever they can. Those who remain are wondering if there will be a collective relocation of Krivelj at all.
It seems that the residents of Oštrelj, Gornjane, Slatina, and Metovnica will face a similar fate, as the mining pits are already close to their homes…
