Third Postponement of Zijin’s Environmental Pollution Trial in the Basic Court in Bor (VIDEO)

In the Basic Court in Bor, the trial against the defendants – the company ‘Zijin Copper Bor’ and the responsible individual, based on the indictment of the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Bor, for the criminal offense of Environmental Pollution, has been postponed for the third time today.

Once again, the accused did not appear in court, and the prosecution proposed, and the judge accepted, that the accused be brought in at the next hearing scheduled for June 15, said Ljubica Vukčević, an attorney for RERI, in a statement to our portal.

“For today’s trial, there was interest from the public, including environmental associations in Bor and Zaječar, within the project ‘Environmental Response in Timočka Krajina,’ funded by the EU. However, neither the public nor our journalist, who was granted permission to attend two days ago, were allowed entry into the courtroom today to hear the reasons for the trial postponement.”

We remind that this proceeding was initiated following a criminal report from RERI and an evidentiary process designating the company Zijin as responsible for air pollution. As a result, the competent prosecutor’s office in Bor filed an indictment against the company and the responsible individual – the legal representative. The main trial was initially scheduled for December 6 of last year, but due to an official trip by Zijin representatives, it was postponed to February 21 and then again to April 25. The new date for the proceedings to possibly commence before the court is June 15.
