The water is safe for drinkingIzvestaj-o-ispitivanju-Oktobar-2024

The fountain was built at its current location in the early years of the 21st century, and the area around the fountain was arranged in 2008 as part of the sports and recreational center “Popova Beach.” The above-ground part is located directly in front of the showers and the staircase. The exact location of the well is unknown and is likely situated about 200 meters in the direction of the sports and recreational complex’s playground. It is assumed that the well is one of several that were constructed in the 1950s for the needs of the former Zaječar slaughterhouse.

The fountain and well were renovated in 2024/2025 as part of the Reconstruction and Revitalization Project of Zaječar’s artesian fountains, implemented by the City of Zaječar, the company HEINEKEN Serbia, and the Association “Za Drinking Fountains”. During this process, the water supply system of the well was repaired. Additionally, the damaged metal above-ground part of the fountain was removed, the immediate surroundings of the fountain were paved with granite cobblestones, and a new cast-iron fountain was installed.

Water characteristics

  • Flow: 2005 – 0.04.l/s, 2018 -0.037 l/s
  • Temperature: 2018 – 15.3°C; 2021 – 13.0°C (sa amplitudom kolebanja 2.0°C)
  • Groundwater level:  Artesian well (self-flowing) – 2021 – Piezometric pressure in the range of 3.1 – 3.2 m, with an oscillation amplitude of 0.1 m.

The water is of a hydrocarbonate-sodium type. During several decades of continuous bacteriological and chemical water quality testing conducted by the Institute for Public Health “Timok” Zaječar, occasional deviations were recorded within the examined parameters for iron (Fe) and color. The measured concentrations of these parameters do not have a harmful effect on human health, and the water is safe for drinking.
