The fountain in the ‘Ključ 2’ settlement, located near the former ‘Česma’ restaurant after which it was named, was built in 1983. According to Miodrag Velojić, PhD (Zaječar’s Public Fountains), the design for its arrangement was created in 1995 by Dragiša Kotujić, a graduate engineer. The drilling work was carried out by the company Georad Zaječar. The well is located beneath the above-ground part of the fountain.
The fountain and well were renovated in 2024/2025 as part of the Reconstruction and Revitalization Project of Zaječar’s artesian fountains, implemented by the City of Zaječar, the company HEINEKEN Serbia, and the Association ‘Za Drinking Fountains’. During this process, the exact location of the artesian well of the fountain was determined, and its revitalization was carried out — including the replacement of the water supply system. Additionally, the damaged above-ground part of the fountain was removed, the immediate surroundings of the fountain were paved with granite cobblestones, and a new cast-iron fountain with a single spout was installed.

Water characteristics
- Flow: 1995 – 0.27 l/s, 2018 –0.275 l/s, 2021 – 0.280 – 0.315 l/s
- Temperature: 2018 – 15.8°C; 2021 – 16.1°C (sa amplitudom kolebanja 0.21°C)
- Groundwater level: Artesian well (self-flowing) – 2021 – Piezometric pressure in the range of 1.25 – 1.4 m, with an oscillation amplitude of 0.15 m.
The water is of a hydrocarbonate-sodium type. During several decades of continuous bacteriological and chemical water quality testing conducted by the Institute for Public Health ‘Timok’ Zaječar, occasional deviations were recorded within the examined parameters for iron (Fe) and color. The measured concentrations of these parameters do not have a harmful effect on human health, and the water is safe for drinking.
